Dr. Lenk obtained her Licenciatura in English and Linguistics at the Universidad Católica de Quito, then, an MA in Spanish and an MEd in Educational Administration at Bowling Green State University, a PhD. in Hispanic Linguistics and a Certificate in Advance Latin American Studies at the University of Pittsburgh.

Biography

Sonia Lenk is the daughter of Czech immigrants, born in Canada, and raised in Ecuador. She was brought up in a diverse environment, surrounded by different languages and cultures.  Through this she developed a special interest for languages and civilizations. She has presented papers on Latin American Poetry, Applied Linguistics, Pragmatics and Sociolinguistics, Interculturality and Service Learning at national and international conferences. Dr. Lenk has published about the slang, language maintenance and shift of minority languages, interculturality and service learning.


Teaching Philosophy

Like her colleagues, Dr. Lenk is a believer in the importance of studying abroad and service learning. She has Directed of the KIIS Summer Service Learning Program in Ecuador.  She has also established partnerships with various local and international communities to motivate her students to participate in civic engagement.
