Alternative Breaks

 

 

Held during the fall, winter and spring semesters, WKU students are given the opportunity to spend their spring break giving back to various community service projects.  Past alternative breaks have included trips to Savannah, GA, Charleston, SC, Memphis, TN, Tuscaloosa, AL, Mobile, AL, New Orleans, LA and Washington DC  Students are selected on their previous community service work and level of involvement and commitment.

This year we will be taking students to Washington DC and Charleston SC!

Charleston, SC

 

  • This year’s Alternative Spring break trip is focused on serving the residents of Charleston, South Carolina.  Service may include community partnership, working at local non-profits like the Ronald McDonald House, United Way, food banks, etc.  Students will also have the opportunity to participate in cultural/educational events throughout the week.  This trip is scheduled for March 10-16, 2018. The application process is required due to the limited number of spots available for this trip.

  • Cost to WKU Students: $100.00, and includes the following 
    • Meals during week
    • Air transportation
    • Lodging accommodations
    • Tickets to museums/events
  • Applications are due by Friday, February 9, 2018. Students will be notified of selection by Monday, February 12, 2018. Payment for the trip is due by Friday, February 23, 2018.

  • Washington, D.C.

    • This year’s Alternative Spring break trip is focused on giving WKU students a Capital experience at the nation’s capital city of Washington D.C. Students will have the opportunity to visit some of D.C.’s greatest attractions. This trip is scheduled for March 10 – 16, 2018. This 6 day trip will include 5 full days in the Washington D.C area with 1 day of service. The application process is required due to the limited number of spots available for this trip.     • Cost to WKU Students: $250.00, and includes the following:
      • Meals during week
      • Air transportation
      • Lodging accommodations
      • Tickets to museums/events
    • Applications are due by Friday, November 3. Students will be notified of selection by Monday, November 6, 2017. The first payment of $125 is due by Friday, November 17, 2017.
