How do I access AppStreaming?

Resolution

1. Navigate to https://appstream.wku.edu
2. Click either Install VMWare Horizon Client or Web Browser Access.
   Note: If you install the Client, enter appstream.wku.edu when prompted for the name of the Connection Server.
3. Enter your NetID and password.
4. Launch the Windows 11 vGPU desktop.
5. Once logged in, click  (Windows menu button) to see the list of apps available and launch what you need. See this Article for all installed apps.
6. To save your work, see this Article for instructions on using OneDrive.

Instructions for connecting to and saving Office documents in OneDrive while using the AppStreaming service.

Issue/Question

How do I save my Office documents while using the AppStreaming service?

Environment

• Office Applications
  • Access
  • Excel
  • OneNote

Resolution

1. Click File.
2. Click Account.
3. Under Connected Services:, select Add a service.
4. Select Storage and click OneDrive for Business.
5. Enter your WKU Email address.
6. Enter your email account password.
7. You will be prompted for multi-factor authentication.
8. Once verified, your OneDrive service will be connected.
9. Click (Back button) to return to your Office document.
10. Click (Save).
11. Select  OneDrive - Western Kentucky University.
12. Click OneDrive - Western Kentucky University.
13. A window will appear with your OneDrive content.
14. Navigate to the desired location on OneDrive, name the file as desired, and click Save.

Instructions for disconnecting and re-authenticating to Horizon app streaming when a connection error appears.

Issue/Question

When I try to open an AppStreaming app, I receive an error message:

Error

Failed to connect to the Connection Server.

Cause

This occurs when the connection to Horizon becomes idle. This is experienced if nothing is launched within 10 minutes of initial login to the Horizon interface.

Resolution

A new connection must be established:

1. Click OK on the error message.
2. Return to the Apps list.
3. Log out of the interface:
   • Web Browser Access: Click (Log out)
   • Horizon Client App for Windows/Mac: click (Disconnect).
4. You will return to the Sign In window and can re-authenticate.

Instructions for saving work within an AppStreaming application.

Issue/Question

How do I save what I have worked on in AppStreaming?

Resolution

1. Log into OneDrive, if you have not already:
   1. Minimize any open apps to show the AppStreaming Desktop.
   2. Double-click the OneDrive shortcut and sign in with your @topper or @wku email address.
   3. Continue through the​​​​​​ wizard.
2. Return to your app's window.
3. Click File and choose Save As.
4. Navigate to your user directory (This PC > Windows (C:) > Users > [Your NetID]) and select OneDrive - Western Kentucky University.
5. Return to the AppStreaming Desktop and open the OneDrive shortcut.
6. Navigate to where you saved your file.
7. Check the status of the file to ensure it has uploaded to OneDrive.

How do I copy files and text between my computer and an AppStreaming app?

Resolution

Your experience with file and text transfers will vary dependent on the browser in use:

It is recommended to use OneDrive for file transfers. Reference the Saving Work With AppStreaming article for more information. If you have files not in OneDrive that you want to use in an AppStreaming computer, you can follow the instructions below.

Sending Files to AppStreaming Computer in a Browser

1. Expand Horizon's side menu.
2. Click Open File Transfer panel.
3. In the Upload tab, click Choose Files.
4. Navigate to and select the file(s) you want to work on.
5. Click Upload.
6. On the AppStreaming Computer, navigate to your Documents folder.
7. The uploaded file(s) will appear and can be opened to work on.

Saving Files from an AppStreaming Computer in a Browser

1. Expand Horizon's side menu.
2. Click Open File Transfer panel.
3. In the streamed app, click File > Save As.
4. Select Documents from the Quick Access pane.
5. Name the file as desired.
6. Click Save.
7. On the AppStreaming Computer, navigate to your Documents folder.
8. Right-click the file just saved. Select Copy.
9. In the File Transfer panel in your browser, click the Download tab.
10. The copied file will appear. Click (Download) to save the file to your computer's Downloads folder.

Copying Text to an AppStreaming Computer in a Browser

As noted above, copying text may only work one-way, if at all. For Safari on macOS, the Copy & Paste panel must be open for the feature to work:

1. Expand Horizon's side menu.
2. Click Open Copy & Paste panel.
3. On your computer, select and copy the text you want to use in the streamed app. It will appear in the panel.
4. You can now paste the text in the streamed app.

Copying Text from an AppStreaming Computer in a Browser

As noted above, copying text may only work one-way, if at all. For Firefox, when selecting to copy text, a box requesting approval will appear temporarily. Click OK to approve before the box disappears. For Safari on macOS, the Copy & Paste panel must be open for the feature to work:

1. Expand Horizon's side menu.
2. Click Open Copy & Paste panel.
3. In your streamed app, select and copy the text you want to use on your computer. It will appear in the panel.
4. Select and copy the text in the panel.
5. You can now paste the text on your computer.

2. Once installed, click (Add Server).
3. Enter appstream.wku.edu.
4. Click Connect.
5. When prompted, provide your WKU NetID and password.
6. Click Login.
