Dr. Leigh Anne Roden-Carrier

What is your favorite part about your program?

The Communication Disorders Clinic is my favorite aspect of the CSD program. Students at the undergraduate level are given the rare opportunity to provide speech and language services to a variety of clients across the South Central Kentucky region. They are able to practice under the supervision of nationally certified speech-language pathologists and learn to write treatment plans, diagnostic reports, progress notes, and final summaries. WKU undergraduates who attend other graduate programs often comment that they were one of the only students in their cohort who had undergraduate clinic experience.

What is your go-to advice for CSD students?

When people choose a career, it is something they plan to do for the rest of their lives. Make sure you love this career so much that you don't feel like you have a job. You should feel like what you do everyday is your favorite hobby that just so happens to deposit a check into your bank account.

What is your favorite item in your office?

Since we are a selective admissions major, students progress through the program in cohorts. I had taught exclusively online for the first few years I was at WKU and was very excited to finally have a face-to-face course. My favorite item in my office is a classroom quilt with pieces decorated by my first cohort of face-toface students. My mother had recently learned to quilt and pieced it together for me.

Do you have any hidden talents or interests?

I am really good at Wheel of Fortune

What is one thing still left on your bucket list?

The faculty member with the longest tenure at WKU has the honor of carrying the mace in the graduation processional. The number one thing on my bucket list is to carry the mace.
