Provost Award for Excellence in Online Teaching and Course Design
On behalf of the Provost’s Office, the WKU Office of Academic Affairs invites nominations for the Provost’s Award for Excellence in Online Teaching andCourse Design. This award recognizes individual faculty and staff for a strong commitment to engaged and inclusive online teaching as well as exceptional student learning outcomes. For this award, “online” is defined as a course section delivered online using WKU supported learning technologies with no more than two in-person meetings at a defined campus location on a specific day/time.
Communities of Practice
WKU’s Communities of Practice provide an opportunity for select 5-6 faculty and staff who teach consistently/extensively to come together on a regular basis to discuss topics of strategic relevance to the institution, to deepen their knowledge and expertise on a given topic, and provide guidance and professional development to the wider WKU teaching community. Communities of Practice are an investment in teaching and research excellence. Communities of Practice are sponsored by the Provost’s Office and CITL.
Inclusive Teaching Academy (ITA)
The ITA is designed to develop advocates rather than experts. The Institute and its architects (the Community of Practice Fellows) do not assume the role of authority on DEI issues and do not seek to train participants to become experts. Rather, the goal is to cultivate a mindset of continuous growth through praxis and reflection as a way to foster DEI advocacy at WKU.
Living Learning Community (LLC) Faculty Fellows
The LLC Faculty Fellow provides an opportunity for professional development and institutional service that directly impacts student persistence, retention, and graduation. With the support of their college as well as the Housing & Residence Life and CITL staff, the LLC Faculty Fellows will create an environment in which students feel connected to students inside and outside their LLC as well as the broader WKU Community.
Teaching Excellence
In the Spring 2019 semester, CITL began to solicit student nominations for its Teaching Honors. We asked students to identify members of the WKU faculty who, in their experience, have proven to be effective, thoughtful, and innovative pedagogues. Although this is but one measure of the tremendous teaching that happens on WKU’s campus, we wanted to recognize faculty in a concrete and public way for the difference they make in our students’ lives.
