Faculty Development

About Us

Faculty Development is a unit of the Center for Innovative Teaching & Learning (CITL). Our team supports, promotes, and advocates for the implementation of scholarly and reflective teaching practices to advance the academic mission of Western Kentucky University.

Services

The Faculty Development staff offer the following services: Teaching Consultations, Midterm Course Evaluation - Student Feedback, Special Events, and Teaching & Learning Workshops.

We offer confidential teaching consultations for faculty and instructors who are interested in receiving feedback on their teaching. Consultations include everything from syllabus or assignment review to in-class teaching observations. For teaching observations, the CITL staff will provide detailed feedback to the faculty member and may provide follow-up consultations upon request.

To schedule a consultation, please contact the CITL.

Collecting student feedback is a wonderful way to gauge how things are going in your class. We offer confidential consultations for faculty and instructors who are interested in having us help to gather feedback from their students. This feedback can be collected in several ways and the CITL staff is happy to work with you to determine what method would work best for your course. Depending on the amount of time you have available and the questions you would like to ask, the CITL staff can administer an anonymous questionnaire (takes approximately 10 minutes) or we can conduct a focus group and talk more deeply with students about their experience (takes approximately 20-30 minutes). Regardless of the method you choose, the feedback is anonymous.

After collecting the feedback, the CITL staff member will compile and analyze the responses for a follow-up consultation in which you will discuss the feedback and think through whether or not it would be helpful to implement changes. To schedule a consultation, please contact the CITL.

We host a variety of special events throughout the year. These events feature nationally recognized scholars in higher education and are open to the WKU community.

For information about specific CITL events, please visit the CITL Events page.

The faculty development team offers numerous workshops throughout the academic year. These sessions focus on current trends in education development and higher education and feature collaborations with other experts across campus including WKU faculty, WKU staff, and the CITL instructional design and technology team.
