Student Media

Students are encouraged to seek practical experience through work on student publications and broadcasting outlets, other campus publications, local media, and internships at newspapers, magazines, radio and television stations, businesses, other institutions. Students may gain experience by working on the NewsChannel12 newscast, Extra Point sports show, Revolution 91.7, the WKU Storm Team and Student Publications. Qualified students may gain additional experience on campus through staff work at the National Public Radio station, WKYU-FM, or crew employment at the Public Broadcasting System associate member station, WKYU-TV24.





NewsChannel12  is a 30 minute broadcast of news and sports events involving Western Kentucky University and its students. The program involves nearly fifty students in the School of Journalism & Broadcasting. On-air talent audition each semester for anchor positions. Student anchors, producers, photographers and reporters combine their resources to produce the program.

Extra Point


Extra Point is a LIVE weekly student run sports program. Extra Point airs on WKUs PBS station every Thursday at 6:00pm.



Revolution 917


Revolution 91.7 is the student-run campus radio station of Western Kentucky University. We play the best in college-progressive music and showcase up-and-coming artists.

Redzone Radio


RedZone Radio is a WKU-themed Sports Radio show hosted every Sunday at 7pm on Revolution 91.7 and hosted by Sam Gormley, Leroy Kleimola, and Caleb Sweeney.
WKU Storm Team


The WKU Storm Team is comprised of meteorology/broadcasting students. We use the resources of StormCenter 12's studio in the Academic Complex, Revolution 91.7 in MMTH, and the internet to provide Hilltoppers with the latest information regarding severe weather.




WKU Student Publications is home to the College Heights Herald student newspaper, the Talisman magazine and the WKUHerald.com and WKUTalisman.com digital platforms.







The School of Media at WKU is ACEJMC accredited for majors in Broadcasting, Journalism and Photojournalism.
