Teach English as a second language. See the world in new ways.

Our TESOL programs equip students with the knowledge and skills they need to teach English effectively to speakers of other languages.

Are you an undergraduate student thinking about living abroad after graduation? Or an Education major interested in adding an English-as-a-Second-Language (ESL) endorsement? Our undergraduate certificate will prepare you to teach English overseas or at home, and it serves as a minor in your degree program.

Already have a degree? Check out our graduate certificate program. For licensed teachers, we offer a stand-alone ESL endorsement and a TESOL concentration within the MAE program.

For all our programs, we offer flexible in-person and distance learning options. You will gain an in-depth understanding of:

  • the structure of the English language, including its systems of sounds, grammar, and vocabulary
  • relationships between language, culture, and society
  • a variety of teaching methods that can be adapted to the needs and interests of English learners in international and domestic contexts
