Bethany Briscoe, Outstanding student in the MA in Criminology

briscoeCongratulations to Bethany Briscoe who has been named the Outstanding Student pursing the Criminology MA.

My involvement in WKU’s Criminology program has been the most amazing experience.  I am a high school Sociology teacher and this program has helped me take my classes to higher levels.  The effective professors have provided me with in-depth content knowledge and meaningful assignments that have helped me develop my craft in the classroom.  The flexibility in allowing me to choose topics of interest has provided me with life-changing perspectives.  I was able to focus on juvenile delinquency, family violence, and Appalachian controversies, to name a few; that affect a multitude of my students.  Being able to understand students’ diverse backgrounds, in my opinion, is one of the most important qualities of being an impactful teacher.  When I started this program, I just wanted to learn more about sociology and criminology.  However, I have developed a much deeper passion for the field and would love to be an adjunct professor after my graduation.
