WKU Sociology & Criminology Alumni Profiles
Josh Watt ‘13
Josh Watt graduated in 2013 with a bachelors in sociology and a minor in criminology.
Prior to completing his degree, Josh completed an internship with the Federal Probation
and Pretrial Services. He also participated in a study abroad trip to Germany.
Josh is currently a Probation & Parole Officer I , Firearms Instructor, and Field
Training Officer. After completing his internship, Josh decided he wanted to work
in Probation and Parole. After working odd jobs for a year, he got hired with the
Kentucky Department of Corrections in July of 2014. Josh says that what he enjoys
the most about working in Probation and Parole is the feeling of helping even just
one person.
Josh’s most memorable times at WKU were in Dr. Bohlander’s class, but he had lots
of fun in the Sociology Department’s classes. His advice for college students is to
participate in an internship program. The connections and the vast network of people
students come into contact with during the internship is some of the most valuable
information that students can gather when aspiring to work in community corrections.
