Heather Phelps '10 & '12

Heather Phelps earned her BA from WKU in 2010 (with a double major in Sociology and Psychology) and then completed her MA in Psychology and Gerontology in 2012.  Reflecting back on her undergraduate days, Heather noted, “The sociology department at WKU was a wonderful environment in that I felt the teachers were truly passionate about the courses they taught. Of specific note, Dr. Groce’s classes were often very fun in addition to being informative and the enthusiasm he brought to teaching truly stuck with me. Additionally, Dr. Douglas Smith’s explanations of statistics helped me immensely in my graduate studies and thesis research.”

After completing her studies, Heather held positions at Rivendell Behavioral Health Hospital and DCBS before moving to LifeSkills in 2015.  Now she works as a Case Manager/Resource Coordinator for the Children’s IMPACT Program.  In her words, “What I enjoy most about working at Lifeskills is the variability in my schedule in that my job encompasses so many different roles in helping children.  On any given day I could be in a school meeting with a child and teacher discussing interventions to help the child, in the home working with a family towards their goals, working with community partners to find resources for families in need, or working with our teen youth group (Regional Youth Council) on a community project such as road clean up or making gift bags for homeless individuals in the community.”
