Student Scholar Showcase

Information for Session Chairs

Current WKU faculty and staff, retired WKU faculty and staff, and WKU alumni volunteers, and community members are invited to volunteer to be Session Chairs. Session Chairs are integral to the success of the WKU Student Scholar Showcase. The Session Chairs are responsible for introducing the presenters, assisting the presenters with their technical requirements, moderating questions from the audience, and closing the sessions in time.

Session Chairs are typically assigned to one session, but we welcome volunteers who help with the organization of multiple sessions. The typical commitment is approximately 1.5 hours per session, freeing Session Chairs to enjoy the rest of the conference.

This year we renew our focus on interdisciplinary communication. We hope this experience will help students think more carefully about their research and to find connections with people beyond their discipline.

Session Chairs provide our students with a supportive, friendly learning atmosphere for growth at the conference. The Session Chairs’ roles include providing or facilitating a meaningful conversation about the student’s scholarly endeavor. The Showcase strives to primarily celebrate and showcase the range of research and creative activity pursued by WKU students and to prepare them for their next professional presentation.
