Graduate Certificate in College and Career Readiness

Connecting the academic pursuits and career success of elementary, middle, and high school students has gained widespread attention. With local, regional, and national initiatives focused on preparing P-12 students to join a highly educated workforce, the 100% online graduate certificate in College and Career Readiness (CCR) allows education professionals the opportunity to assist this target population.

This 15-credit hour certificate allows individuals in careers ranging from school counselors, teachers, and college and career readiness coaches to deepen their knowledge and skills to support and enhance the development of college and career ready students. Through opportunities such as service-learning and action research, CCR graduates will be equipped to align educational programs and training necessary for P-12 students to be life ready.

Admission to the Graduate Certificate in College and Career Readiness requires applicants to have a bachelor’s degree and meet the minimum admission requirements to the WKU Graduate School. Apply to the CCR Certificate program by completing the Graduate School application

Please note: If you are currently enrolled in a graduate program at WKU, please contact your advisor to learn how you may be able to apply the graduate certificate in College and Career Readiness to your current master's program.

The 15-credit hour certificate program includes the following five required courses:

  • CNS 500 College and Career Readiness Foundations (3 credit hours) 
    Overview of college and career readiness; roles and duties of college and career readiness helpers within the school system; and legal, ethical, standards-related issues and implications.
  • CNS 501 College and Career Consultation & Collaboration (3 credit hours)
    Consultation models, professional collaborations, and application of concepts and skills with an emphasis on college and career readiness within school macro and micro systems
  • CNS 502 College and Career Program Development & Evaluation (3 credit hours)
    Program development and evaluation, with emphasis on P-16 college and career development and readiness
  • CNS 556 Developmental Career Counseling (3 credit hours)
    Integrates the career counseling process into the life span from early childhood through older adulthood. Career development theories; career assessment instruments; educational resources; placement; follow up and evaluation. Interrelationships among work, marital, family, and other life roles including multicultural and gender issues.
  • CNS 503 Practicum in College and Career Readiness (3 credit hours) 
    Supervised experiences in college and career readiness settings..
