Professional Licensure at WKU

Some academic programs at WKU lead to professional licensure, which is a requirement mandated by states or organizations that allows you to legally practice in certain fields like healthcare, education, engineering, and more. Professional licensure ensures that practitioners meet specific standards.

WKU is committed to providing accurate information about whether our academic programs meet the educational requirements needed for licensure in U.S. states and territories, but regulations do change between annual reviews.

Preparing for Your Career

If you are pursuing a degree in a regulated field, it is essential to know the licensure requirements in the location where you intend to work. This is particularly important if you plan on working in a state or territory after graduation that is different from the location you provided in you application.

WKU makes every effort to ensure licensure information is correct. This site is reviewed and updated in July of each year. Regulations are subject to changes by state legislatures and territorial governments at any given time. Once WKU has been made aware of any changes in licensure requirements, we will promptly notify students. When in doubt, contact the professional licensure board in your state or territory.

Each U.S. state and territory has its own standards for licensed professionals that may be different from Kentucky's requirements to practice in a particular field.
