Petroleum Experts (Petex) donated the equivalent of $2,741,010.62 USD worth of software grant to continue the ongoing geoscience teaching and research in the Department of Earth, Environmental, and Atmospheric Sciences (EEAS). This grant includes the complete suite of the MOVE software, which includes 2D and 3D kinematic modeling, geomechanical modeling, fracture modeling, fault response modeling, and fault and stress analysis. Petroleum Experts is a petroleum engineering and structural geology company and the global standard in petroleum engineering and structural geology software tools. The EEAS department’s LeGo Lab (Landscape Geodynamics Lab) and StataMax Lab research team members have used the MOVE software for 2-D and 3-D structural and salt modeling in various geologic locations including Kentucky’s Rough Creek Graben and the Gulf of Mexico. Graduate and undergraduate students, and faculty members are excited to integrate this software with remote sensing data, digital elevation models, seismic data, and GPS-based field maps to develop advanced geoscientific models to better understand geological evolution. We greatly appreciate the continued support by Petroleum Experts and the invaluable teaching and research opportunities they have given to the EEAS faculty and students by providing this top-of-the-line software.
