Practice Interviews

The Advising and Career Development Center (ACDC) conducts practice interviews in order to allow students and alumni an opportunity to build confidence and receive feedback before going into a real job interview.  Practice interviews are a dress rehearsal for a real job interview and begin the moment you walk into our office, so it is important to come prepared.

Schedule a Practice Interview Today

You must schedule your practice interview at least 48 business hours in advance.  You must also provide your resume, your cover letter, and a job description at least 48 business hours before your appointment.  This helps your Career Coach match your practice interview with what you’re likely to encounter with the prospective employer.

What to Expect

The day of the interview, plan to arrive 10 minutes early, dressed in appropriate attire, and carrying a copy of your resume and cover letter.  You will sign in with our front desk, and, at the scheduled appointment time, your Career Coach will greet you and take you back to one of our interview rooms.  Based on your resume, cover letter, and job description, the Career Coach will ask questions you will likely encounter in the real interview. This will give you a chance to practice your answers and get a feel for how you sound aloud.  Once the practice interview is complete, you and the Career Coach will take time to discuss your strengths and possible areas of improvement.

Practice interviews can also be conducted via zoom or phone.

How to Prepare

Because this is an opportunity to practice your interview skills, the ACDC recommends that you prepare for your practice interview in the same way that you would for a real meeting with a potential employer.  Review our Interview Tips page for detailed recommendations for actions you should take before, during, and after your interview.
