Applied Human Sciences
Department Changes Name
At their July 28 meeting, the WKU Board of Regents approved a change of department name for Family and Consumer Sciences. The new department name is Department of Applied Human Sciences.
According to the request to change the name of the department, this change of name was made to more accurately reflect the multidisciplinary and applied nature of the program offerings in the department. A significant number of schools across the nation use the broader name "Applied Human Sciences" for their programs, which is more descriptive of the technology-, lab- and studio-based courses included in the Family and Consumer Sciences Education, Nutrition/Dietetics, Hospitality Management, Gerontology, Interior Design, Fashion Merchandising, Early Childhood Education, Child Studies and Family Studies programs within the department..
Accreditations achieved within the Applied Human Sciences Department

National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) - Early Childhood Education Associate Degree
