Gaiko, Ph.D., is a Professor of Hospitality Management and Dietetics in the AHS Department, Before joining AHS, she was Associate Vice President for Planning and Program Development in the Office of the Provost&nbsp;at WKU.&nbsp; Before joining the Provost office Sylvia was Associate Dean for five years in the College of Health and Human Services at WKU.&nbsp; She received her B.S. and M.A.E. from WKU and a Ph.D. from Oklahoma State University.&nbsp; Before moving back home to Kentucky, Dr. Gaiko spent five years at the University of Missouri-Columbia as a department head, and thirteen years prior at Oklahoma State University.&nbsp; Dr. Gaiko received the Regents Distinguished Teaching Award from Oklahoma State University (OSU), a student-initiated award given annually to six members of the approximately 1,300 OSU teaching faculty.&nbsp; She has also received the Public Health Excellence Academic Professional Award in recognition for work with the Department of Health and Human Services, and numerous advising awards at the graduate and undergraduate level.&nbsp;</p>

D. is an Associate Professor at Western Kentucky University in the Child and Familky Studies unit.&nbsp; Dr. Darbi, as she is known to her students, peers, and community&nbsp; members, has Multiple Sclerosis (MS).&nbsp; She uses her experiences as a researcher and a person living with MS to educate as many people as possible about the disease.&nbsp; Her primary research interests center on families who have MS and how we can support them and their children best.</p>
<p>Dr. Darbi is dedicated to community and service work.&nbsp; Volunteering to educate children in elementary schools about her service dog, Jaeger, is a driving force in Dr. Darbi's community work.&nbsp; She and her family developed a service dog program to best educate the public on safety and interactions with people who have a service dog, as well as disability awareness.</p>
<p>As well as conducting, publishing, and presenting research, Dr. Darbi is passionate about teaching.&nbsp; Her favorite course topics are parenting strategies, child and familky stress, and behavior management.</p>
<p>Dr. Darbi and her husband have one child, Samantha Jo.</p>
<p>In Spring of 2015, Dr. Darbi and student, Niah Soult, secured a FUSE Grant to write and illustrate a children's book.&nbsp; This interactive book was designed to assist parents who have MS explain the disease to their children while removing the fear that often surrounds the disease.&nbsp; Dr. Adam West contributed to the parent education/resource section included in the book.&nbsp; The concept for the book was a result of findings from a study conducted by Dr. Darbi and Dr. West.&nbsp; The book is available for free through the MS Foundation.&nbsp; Scroll to the bottom of their educational materials page in order to find the children's book.</p>

    [Section_Value3] => <p>Dr. Danita Kelley is an Associate Dean of the College of Health and Human Services.&nbsp; Previously, Dr. Kelley served as the Director of the Didactic Program in Dietetics within the Hospitality Management and Dietetics program at Western Kentucky University for sixteen years and as the college Assessment Coordinator for four years.&nbsp; A Professor with the Department of Applied Human Sciences, Dr. Kelley has taught a variety of courses, including human nutrition, advanced nutrition, medical nutrition therapy, and dietary supplements.&nbsp; Dr. Kelley earned a BS in Biology from Centre College, an MS in Nutrition and Food Science from the University of Kentucky, and a PhD in Nutritional Science from the University of Kentucky.&nbsp; Additionally, Dr. Kelley completed the coordinated program in dietetics at the University of Kentucky, and has been a registered dietitian for over twenty years.&nbsp; Dr. Kelley has served on the Board of Directors for the Kentucky Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics in numerous positions, including Past-President, President, and Secretary.&nbsp; She has also served as Chair and Secretary of the Biochemistry and Physiology section of the Kentucky Academy of Sciences.&nbsp; Dr. Kelley is published in The Journal of Nutrition, The Journal of Nutritional Biochemistry, and the Journal of the American College of Nutrition.&nbsp; Scholarly presentations and publications have included the topics of incentivizing healthy eating among adolescents, assessing communication skills in dietetic students, nutritional care in diabetes mellitus, histaminergic activity and the regulation of food intake, and dietary restriction and the antioxidant defense system.&nbsp; Dr. Kelley is the coauthor of <em>Wardlaw&rsquo;s Perspectives in Nutrition</em>, 10<sup>th</sup> edition, and <em>Wardlaw&rsquo;s Perspectives in Nutrition: A Functional Approach</em>, 1<sup>st</sup> edition.&nbsp; Dr. Kelley has been involved with grant activities funded by the Kentucky Department of Education and by the Institute of Medicine, and she has won awards for teaching from the Kentucky Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and from the Nutrition and Dietetic Educators of Practitioners of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.</p>
