Martha M. Day, Ed.D. is a Professor of Science Education at Western Kentucky University, where she serves as Co-Director of SKyTeach, a UTeach replication program and part of a national STEM teacher preparation initiative led by the National Math and Science Initiative. She is also a Past President of the UTeach STEM Educators Association.

Dr. Day is a nationally recognized educator, scholar, and teacher leader whose work centers on inquiry-based instruction, project-based learning, increasing cognitive complexity in assessments, and content-area literacy. She is a frequent presenter at national conferences and is widely respected for her work in mentoring and coaching beginning teachers, as well as training school leaders to build sustainable, high-quality induction programs.

With more than fifteen years of K–12 teaching and administrative experience in urban school settings, Dr. Day brings a strong practitioner lens to her scholarship. Her current research and writing focus on 5E inquiry-based science instruction for STEM classrooms, with particular emphasis on creating authentic interfaces between STEM industries and STEM education.

Dr. Day’s teaching, advising, and scholarship have been recognized with numerous institutional and national awards. She is the recipient of the UTeach STEM Educators Association Faculty Teaching Award (National Award) and the Western Kentucky University Faculty Student Advisement Award. She has been a multiple-time nominee for the WKU Center for Innovative Teaching and Learning (CITL) Teaching Award and has received multiple honors from the WKU Office of Sponsored Programs, including induction into the Million Dollar Club, recognition for Largest Dollar Amount in a Single Award, and multiple Junior Investigator Awards. Her work has also been recognized by the American Chemical Society (Nashville Chapter Teacher of the Year), the Fulbright Memorial Fund, and Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools for excellence in science education.
