The annual Society of Industrial Organization Psychology (SIOP) conference is just around the corner, and members from the Big Data Lab for Organizational Effectiveness will be attending and presenting their research this year. Julia Hong, Elizabeth Curtis, and Dr. Xiaowen Chen can be found in Boston this April presenting on A big data approach to study worker stress and commitment before and during the pandemic. The research uses 3,828 pieces of data from employment websites to gauge worker attitudes from 278 Fortune 300 companies. These companies could be split into 14 industries. The results indicate that there are industry differences in worker stress and commitment, but the differences disappeared during the pandemic. This research is useful in bringing COVID-related workplace stressors to the attention of employers so that they may take the necessary preventative action. The authors will be presenting a poster at the conference and participating in the Machine Learning Competition throughout the weeks leading up to and during the conference. They are excited to follow through with this opportunity and share their research in a professional setting.
