Big Data Lab for Organizational Effectiveness

Our Mission

Our lab studies organizational behaviors, personnel selection, performance appraisal system, and expatriate management. We study person-organization and person-position fit, effective team/leadership, and decisions on personnel selection. One of our missions is to seek solutions to problems that impede workplace effectiveness. We strive for applying scientific analysis methods and machine learning techniques to diagnosing organizational and personnel issues and developing data-driven solutions to increasing productivity and employee psychological well-being.

We also study and provide consultation on equal employment opportunity (EEO) laws and compliance, and develop reliable, valid, and legally defensible selection tools for organizations to recruit, hire, evaluate and promote their employees.

We are an interdisciplinary team that incorporates scholars and practitioners from Industrial-Organizational Psychology, Mathematics, and Computer/Data Science. We have high-power computers in support of big data analysis and natural language processing.

Machine Learning in Organizational Effectiveness – A Cutting-Edge Method

Machine learning is a constellation of various statistical-computational techniques working together to acquire and integrate large-scale data and to discover hidden patterns and relationships underlying the data. Machine learning techniques are gradually being applied to solutions of increasing organizational effectiveness. In our lab machine learning techniques are used for competency modeling, prediction modeling for personnel management such as selection, recruitment and retention, strategic compensation design and customer experience analysis.
