Professional Standards The Mission

  • To provide the Western Kentucky University Police Department higher educational, professional, and physical standards.
  • To conduct relevant and quality Crime Prevention educational programs to our Faculty, Staff and Students.
  • To train our officers in the most current and advanced law enforcement, leadership, tactics, techniques and operations available.

Professional Standards is responsible for police review and writing, Lead Firearms Instructor and Range Master, Lead Explorer Post Adviser, assists with Dispatcher and Police Training and Development, Recruit Development and Orientation, Uniforms and Equipment, and training.

Special Events

Western Kentucky University Special Events Section specialize in special events and work in support of the enforcement of laws, and regulations at this regent's institution.

Although the WKU campus is relatively safe place, we are not immune to those problems that affect all urban citizens, including problems related to public safety and law enforcement.

The Special Events Section assists the patrol unit and is responsible for events that require Law Enforcement aside from routine patrol. Special Events coordinate with WKU staff members to organize security for special events, athletics, and student run event to ensure the safety and security of those attending.

Crime Prevention

 is achieved through education and awareness. The Crime Prevention Officer's function is to provide crime prevention services to students, staff and faculty. The Officer provides a wide range of educational programs, including rape awareness, drug and alcohol awareness, personal safety, theft prevention, vandalism, and related issues. The officer is also available to meet the special educational needs of campus groups and organizations.
