Lindy Watkins works with WKU students who are eligible to receive the Pell Grant and who would like to study abroad by advising them through Gilman Scholarship application cycles. If that describes you, schedule a meeting with her so that you can explore ways to make more possible!
Lindy earned a BA from WKU where she completed an Honors Self-Designed Major with a Concentration in Linguistics, a major in Arabic, and minors in Spanish and TESOL, and is currently in the process of earning an MDiv with a certificate in Greek Exegesis from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. She is fascinated by the crossovers between anthropology, culture, and linguistics, and how rapidly language usage changes. As a certified Word Nerd, she is always listening/looking out for new slang, dialectal differences, and any kind of fanciful fun with language.
Lindy’s goal in advising is to help each student use their unique voice to communicate clearly through their applications. As a former Gilman recipient and studier abroad, she understands what it is like to go through the Gilman application process. The way each one of us uses language is part of our individual identity—it reminds us of where we come from, where we have been and what we have learned, and gives us a way to express where we want to go. She seeks to help students find their voice to give others a glimpse of who they are, which is integral to the application process as well as the study abroad experience.
Lindy grew up in Hickman, Kentucky, and has spent most of her years 2016 and following in Bowling Green after attending Gatton Academy. She always has multiple projects involving textiles going on, either on knitting needles, a crochet hook, or a sewing machine. This means she does a lot of sitting, so at other times she may be found attempting (with varying levels of success) to scale rock faces as her physical activity of choice.
