Two students in the College of Health and Human Services at WKU recieved scholarships sponsored by the MA in Social Responsibility & Sustainable Communities, the Office of Sustainability, and the University College.
Jennifer Ottersbach, an Outdoor Recreation and Spanish double-major from Crestwood, KY, works with the Girl Scouts on youth projects involving outdoor activities and environmental education.

Elizabeth Willenbrink, a Social Work major from Louisville, KY, understands the difference between temporary and long term solutions, and is working with African refugee families at the BG Housing Authority.

Applicants were asked to describe their work in sustainability, which should include both research and civic action components. Judges looked for balanced consideration of the environmental, social, and economic elements of the student’s work and supporting documentation. Equal weight was given to students’ statements and faculty letters of support.
