Biography

Dr. ROYHAN GANI is a Professor of Geological Sciences at Western Kentucky University and Director of the StrataMax Lab (Stratigraphy Maximum). While mentoring the next generation of geoscientists, he is committed to understanding and responsibly managing Earth’s resources through innovative 3D data analysis, digital geologic modeling, and field-based research. His research interests include sedimentary geology, particularly sequence and seismic stratigraphy, ichnology, river deltas, reservoir analogs, integration of well logs, cores, and 2D/3D seismic data, deep learning, ground-penetrating radar, source-to-sink systems, basin analysis, tectonic sedimentology, and Martian sedimentology. He also investigates the relationships among paleoclimate and hominin evolution in East Africa, as well as paleoclimate using compound-specific and multi-isotope analyses of lipid biomarkers (δ¹⁸O, δ¹³C, and δD), GDGT-based paleotemperature reconstruction, and paleoaltimetry. Dr. Gani leads WKU’s participation in the AAPG Imperial Barrel Award competition. Visit Dr. Royhan Gani’s website or contact him at royhan.gani@wku.edu.
