FSA Day of Caring

Folk Studies and Anthropology Cares for Our Students!

Students are at the core of our departmental mission. We train students to pursue careers and advanced degrees in our disciplines and related fields. We engage students in meaningful hands-on learning experiences such as field work, lab analyses, and public outreach. We equip students with the tools to communicate effectively, to critically and creativity solve problems, and to engage respectfully and ethically with people of different backgrounds. We promote professional development and assist students in expanding their professional networks. We inspire students to serve their communities, to be responsible and compassionate citizens, and to aspire to lifelong learning. We proudly embrace our alumni as colleagues. And, now, during the quickly changing, uncertain, and frightening time of the pandemic crisis, we support and encourage our students and alumni and all the communities and partners with whom we work -- stay informed and engaged, take care of yourselves and others around you, turn negatives into positives, and remember that better days are ahead.

We encourage our students -- past and present -- and our friends to take a moment today to express support for each other, to share stories of overcoming obstacles, and to share memories of favorite classes, teachers, or experiences. Visit our Facebook pages and post a note!

And, we welcome contributions of caring in support of our students and departmental mission. Donations make a huge difference in the lives of our students and faculty, as well as the many communities and constituents we serve across the region and around the globe. Financial contributions support instructional excellence, groundbreaking academic research and impactful applied research, conference travel, study abroad and scholarship opportunities, professional development initiatives, equipment and technology purchases and upgrades, guest speakers and public events, and so much more!
