Drone Use Exemption Application

UAS Prohibition  Request for Exemption Application

Prior to completing the application for exemption for Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) operation on the WKU Campus, please answer the following questions:

    • Is the operator of the UAF at least 17 years of age?

    • Is the UAF registered with the Federal Aviation Administration, and is the registration number displayed on the UAF?

    • Is the UAF in good working order and fully functioning?

    • Does the UAF weigh 55 pounds or less when flight ready?

    • Does the purpose of the proposed flight support the business of the university?

    • Is the proposed flight area away from all prohibited areas including stadiums, other sports venues, residence halls, occupied public venues? SEE WKU MAIN CAMPUS BASEMAP

If the applicant cannot answer YES to each of these qualifying questions, the proposed UAS operation does not meet the provisions of the WKU UAS Policy. Before submitting an application request, please review the WKU Unmanned Aircraft System Policy found here. The request will be reviewed by the WKU UAS Review Committee and an approval/denial will be returned with additional application instructions (if request for application is approved).

By answering yes to the above questions you may complete the Application for Exemption to Operate a UAS on WKU property.

This is an application for conditional approval to use an unmanned aerial system ("UAS" or "drone"), making the applicant exempt from the policy prohibiting drone use on WKU property or at a WKU-sanctioned event or activity. Applying does not grant the applicant a use exemption. Before submitting an application request, please review the WKU Unmanned Aircraft System Policy found here. The request will be reviewed by the WKU UAS Review Committee and an approval/denial will be returned with additional application instructions (if request for application is approved).
