Approved Practicum & Internship Sites

Clinical Mental Health Counseling and Marriage, Couple, and Family Counseling

The following sites have been approved by the Clinical Coordinator and meet the requirement for maintaining a clinical site as described in the Practicum & Internship Manual. Local Sites (in Bowling Green, Kentucky)

  • Alliance Counseling Associates  # *
    Large group practice providing services that integrate many models of counseling, therapy, and wellness including mindfulness meditation, yoga, biofeedback, essential oil consultations, and sound massage.
  • Balance Therapeutic Care *
    Identify and address behavioral and mental health issues including intakes, assessment, treatment planning, diagnosis, providing therapy through evidence based models, and working cooperatively with other treatment team members.
  • BRASS Domestic Violence Shelter & Program ^
    Crisis Intervention with clients who enter the Domestic Violence Shelter. Individual, group, and play therapy sessions for residential and non-residential clients across 10 counties.
  • FamilyWorks Therapy and Consultation Services  (Alvaton, KY) # *
    Community-based individual and family counseling with children, adolescents, and adults.
  • JourneyPure / Questhouse *
    Intensive outpatient treatment for chemical dependency. Opportunities for group, individual, family therapy as well as intakes and discharge planning.
  • KY STEPs (Bowling Green, KY) # ^
    Community-based individual and family counseling specializing in intellectual and developmental disabilities and mental health disorders.
  • LifeSkills Children's Crisis Stabilization Unit # *
    Small inpatient facility for children ages 5-17 who are experiencing a crisis situation such as suicidal or homicidal ideation; includes individual, group, and family counseling services.
  • LifeSkills Addictions Services # *
    Outpatient servicing a wide variety of adult clients throughout 10 counties. Issues range from mild to severe mental health concerns and substance abuse disorders. Limited family hours but possible through other LifeSkills departments.
  • LifeSkills Adult Crisis Stabilization Unit *
    Inpatient facility addressing short-term crisis stabilization. Issues include suicide ideation. Limited family hours.
  • LifeSkills Adult Services *
    Outpatient mental health clinic offering a full variety of services for adults with severe emotional and behavioral disorders.
  • LifeSkills Park Place Recovery Center for Men  
    Inpatient individual, family, and group counseling for substance use disorder (SUD) or co-occuring SUD and mental health concerns.
  • LifeSkills Therapeutic Rehabilitation Program # ^
    A day program for adults that suffer from severe mental illness. Individuals are provided with therapy groups, psychosocial groups, and individual sessions as needed to focus on improving recovery skills and enhancing independent living skills.
  • LifeSkills Summer Program # *
    Intensive outpatient summer program for children (5-17yo) with severe emotional and behavioral disorders. Children receive daily group therapy, individual therapy once to twice a week, and some family therapy with siblings and possibly parents. This is a summer-only site.
  • Rivendell Behavioral Health Services # *
    Large inpatient hospital providing general psychiatric stabilization and medication management for pre-teens, adolescents, adolescent and adult substance abuse, and geriatric patients. Therapeutic focus includes mental health, substance abuse, and sexual abuse/perpetrators. Includes individual, group, and family counseling services.
  • Talley Family Counseling Center(TFCC)  # *
    Individual, family, and group counseling with children or adults; includes outreach to local schools and the Housing Authority after-school program. Housed in Gary A. Ransdell Hall on WKU campus.
  • The Bridge to Recovery # ^
    Internships for full-time employees only. A transformational residential program (2-12 weeks) specializing in healing individuals by addressing the core causes of anxiety, depression, and compulsive behaviors. Primarily uses group therapy for treatment; monthly family program.
  • WKU Counseling Center  
    Individual or group counseling services for WKU students addressing a broad range of issues including depression, anxiety, homesickness, attention difficulties, etc.

Remote Sites (outside of Bowling Green)

  • Advanced Behavioral Counseling  (Elizabethtown, KY) 
    Private practice providing psychiatric care, medication management, and behavioral health counseling for children, adolescents, adults, families, and couples. 
  • Bluegrass Professional Counseling (Munfordville, KY) 
    Rural, mental health group practice for individual, couples, and family counseling. Also provides court-referred services and a Therapeutic Rehabilitation Program (TRP) for adolescents and teens who need additional therapy in a day-treatment setting.
  • Communicare New Beginnings Substance Abuse Program (Elizabethtown, KY) ^
    Substance abuse and mental health individual and group counseling with state inmates.
  • Connect Counseling (Clarksville, TN) 
    Mental health counseling for children, adolescents, individuals, couples, and families.
  • JourneyPure at the River (Murfeesboro, TN) *
    Intensive outpatient treatment for chemical dependency. Opportunities for group, individual, family therapy as well as intakes and discharge planning.
  • Sunrise Children's Services (Owensboro, KY) # *
    Provide individual children's therapy (ages 3-21) and family counseling in the office, schools, and homes.
  • The Next Step Counseling Services (Elizabethtown, KY)  # ^
    Individual, couples, and family counseling for a variety of issues including substance abuse, domestic violence, mental health disorders, parenting, and relationship issues.
  • Twin Lakes Counseling (Leitchfield, KY) ^
    Small group practice providing individual, couple, and family counseling for a variety of issues.

  • Austin Peay State University Student Counseling Services (Clarksville, TN)
    Discuss with Dr. Wolf if interested to complete approval of the site; send cover letter and resume to John DeMarco at demarcoj@apsu.edu. Internships are fall & spring only.
  • Communicare (Various sites in Breckinridge, Grayson, Hardin, LaRue, Marion, Meade, Nelson and Washington counties, KY)
  • Cumberland Hall Hospital (Hopkinsville, KY)
  • Kinder Haven, Inc. (Glasgow, KY)
  • KidSpot (Elizabethtown & Campbellsville, KY)
  • Lincoln Trail Behavioral Services (Radcliff, KY)
  • NECCO (Owensboro, KY)
    Individual (and some family) counseling with foster children ages 2 - 21 years (primary age group 8 - 12).
  • Pinnacle Treatment Centers(various locations in KY, IN, NJ, OH, PA, and VA) 
    13 locations specializing in substance abuse treatment offering outpatient MAT, residential, and IOP.  For out of state students, we have facilities in Indiana, New Jersey, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Virginia.
  • Signature Health (Clarkesville, TN)
  • Owensboro Community & Technical College (Owensboro) 
    Individual (and some family) personal, career, and academic counseling with enrolled students.
  • The Ridge (KY-TN area)
  • United Methodist Homes for Youth, Inc; Mary Kendall Campus (Owensboro, KY) ^
    Residential children's treatment facility for children (ages 12-17) with behavioral issues and histories  of abuse, neglect, or family trauma. Includes some family therapy but not guaranteed family hours.
