Women In Business

WKU Women in Business is an organization that focuses on providing professional and personal development opportunities to all students. Members of Women in Business strive to answer the question, “What can we do to empower women to improve their lives and inspire them to improve the lives of others?”

The group was founded in October 2017, on the premise of the book Lean In by Sheryl Sandberg, to start a conversation about the different challenges that will be faced in the workforce. “Leaning in” consists of intentional, small groups focused on listening, building, and fostering the achievements of the participants.  Typically, each group will have a specific topic that is explored in an open and conversational format.

The group is all-inclusive, and we invite all majors to join in the discussion.

Encouraging professional development by promoting leadership, fostering relationships and inspiring young women to reach their full potential.

WIB will work toward this mission by providing students at Western Kentucky University with significant leadership opportunities, community involvement, and professional development. This organization is dedicated to empowering, inspiring, and improving the lives of others and to expand each individual’s leadership potential.

  • WIB plans to offer “mentoring-lite” connections, in which student members form alliances with established business women in the local community.
  • WIB hopes to establish a scholarship program dedicated to recognizing and rewarding members with records of exemplary academic performance and leadership.
  • In addition, WIB will highly encourage the professional development of its members that include opportunities to hear from dozens of speakers from the corporate and academic worlds, resume and interview preparation workshops, and professional trips.
  • This organization will also work to serve the needs of the broader community by being involved in different service opportunities.
