Biography

Thomas Deaton, a junior from Elizabethtown, KY, is a first-year Spirit Master majoring in English with a concentration in Professional Writing and a minor in Environmental Studies & Sustainability.  He is a member of the Mahurin Honors College, where he serves as an Honors Freshman Orientation Retreat (H4) counselor and is beginning work on his Capstone Experience/Thesis project, a collection of writings and photographs from his time spent abroad.  In the fall of his sophomore year, he visited 14 countries through the Semester at Sea program, making friends from around the world and exploring countries across Europe, Africa, and South America.  He is a recipient of the Cherry Presidential Scholarship and has been recognized on the President’s List.  He is a member of Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity and serves on the WKU Student Equity Council.  He is currently serving his first term as Spirit Masters Public Relations Chair. 

Favorite Place on Campus: Chandler Memorial Chapel.  The contrast between its stone, wood, and metalwork will always catch my eye, and it serves as a place of contemplation and solitude to all members of the University body.
