Research

My research broadly focuses on workforce aging and age diversity from an occupational health psychology perspective. Based on the understanding that work influences health throughout life and societal beliefs and expectations tied to the relationship between age and work, my current research falls into two main areas: combatting workplace ageism and promoting productive aging at work. I approach workplace ageism from a lifespan perspective (i.e., age 18 and older) and explore ageist beliefs and behaviors from the viewpoint of both perpetrators and targets of ageism. Productive aging at work refers to the ongoing ability of individuals to stay involved and actively contribute to their organizations, as well as enhance their own skills and abilities related to work as they age. My focus in this area is applied in nature and centers on developing theoretically and methodologically sound tools and resources that companies can use to support, engage, and benefit from an aging and age diverse workforce. I am particularly interested in partnering with leaders interested implementing productive aging practices in their workplaces.
