WKU Recreation Administration Program Hosts River Clean-Up

On Friday, October 13, the Recreation Administration program in our WKU School of Kinesiology, Recreation & Sport (KRS) conducted a river clean-up on Drakes Creek. The clean-up consisted of paddling four hours and covering six miles of river!

Employee participation:

Tammie Stenger-Ramsey (event volunteer- set-up and logistics- AND – paddling participant)

Steve Spencer (event volunteer – set up and logistics ONLY)

Lizzy Gardner, Graduate Assistant (event volunteer – set up and logistics AND paddling participant)

Meghan Loughry, Graduate Assistant (paddling participant ONLY)

Silas Arnold (event volunteer - logistics AND paddling participant)

Christian Croxton (paddling participant - ONLY)

Nate Heider (event volunteer- snack donation ONLY)

Adam Carman (event volunteer – supplies donation and trash disposal ONLY )

As a result of the event we removed the following from Drakes Creek:

7 tires

1 washing machine

1 large metal beverage dispenser

1 broken cooler

1 small refrigerator door

Pieces of plastic lounge chairs and house siding

And 15 bags of trash (bottles, cans, wrappers, busted pool floats, flip flops and sandals, plastic ribbon, rope and cord).
