Students must register in advanced in order to attend Grocery Bingo. Capacity will be limited to 10 students per session. There will be two 45-minute Grocery Bingo sessions with a 15-minute break in between sessions for sanitation.

Tables and chairs will be spaced out in order to maintain social distance between students and staff. Students will be asked to use hand sanitizer (which will be provided) upon entering and must wear a mask properly at all times. When students get bingo, there will be blue masking tape on the ground with 6 ft. of space in between and they will stand in line to have their bingo sheets checked off one at a time.

Once they have their bingo sheet checked off, one student at a time will pick out their grocery prize from a table. A student worker will hand them their prize wearing gloves in order to ensure that students are not grabbing/touching multiple items.

All participants will be entered into a grand prize drawing and will receive an email from student wellness to pick up their prize in the student wellness suite at the end of the week. Winners of the Kahoot will have the opportunity to win an HEP cup or Campus Rec and Wellness water bottle which they will receive at the end of the session.

A sign will be placed in front of the multipurpose room door that says that the event is full and when our next GB will be held in order to ensure students who did not register don’t enter the room during the event.

Looking for a way to expand your practice toolkit? Mindfulness is a complementary approach to daily musical practice, engaging the same mental and physical processes that we already use as musicians. It provides contemplative tools for awareness, exploration, and reflection that can be applied both in and outside of the practice room. In this discussion, we will explore how mindfulness can help you enjoy your practice sessions, deal with the stresses of musical life (including performance anxiety), and avoid burnout and injury. Suggestions for applications in the music classroom and further resources for educators will also be presented. Q&A will follow the presentation.

Day 1: Twice-Exceptional Students: An Introduction – Who Are They? What Do They Need?

There is increased understanding about the importance of creativity in education for both the individual and society as a whole. In order to nurture creativity in the classroom, educators must approach education from a strength-based perspective. This is especially beneficial for gifted students who also have learning and/or behavioral differences.

In this workshop we will examine the research on twice-exceptionality and explore the practical implications of these findings as educators work to build creative classroom environments that highlights the motivation, strengths, perseverance, and resilience of this gifted population while also addressing the challenges that they have as a result of their individual disabilities.

Day 2: Addressing the Social-Emotional Needs of Twice-Exceptional Students

Students who are twice exceptional possess a variety of strengths while also facing challenges related to being Gifted &. While a great deal of focus has been on their academic strengths and challenges, they have unique social-emotional needs must also be recognized and addressed within the educational setting.

This workshop will focus on the understanding of the unique social and emotional needs of twice-exceptional students. Participants will explore characteristics of this gifted population and their needs, developmental traits, and vulnerabilities. Additionally, an introduction to current educational approaches and guidance will be discussed.
