ADA Advisory Committee’s (formerly ADA Policy Advisory Committee) purpose is to provide Western Kentucky University personnel (faculty, staff, and students) with valuable information to enhance effectiveness in providing a campus environment free of discrimination and bias towards individuals with disabilities. This committee will also offer direction to Western Kentucky University personnel to the tools and resources necessary to gain access to programs and reviews services that will enable them to function as independently as possible in a supportive atmosphere that promotes self-reliance.

To better assist University personnel, the ADA Advisory Committee will oversee and provide a number of support service programs. The purpose of these programs is not to create a competitive advantage for individuals with disabilities, but to ensure equal access and opportunity. In order to gain the most experience at Western Kentucky University, students, faculty, and staff will need self-confidence and assurance in their abilities, and a desire to function in an environment requiring adaptability and change, and the ability to realize personal strengths and limitations. Also, the desire and ability to take responsibility for managing daily routines, assertiveness in seeking the assistance necessary to assure academic and personal success, and the patience to spend the extra time necessary to study effectively are essential.

Western Kentucky University is dedicated to the equality of educational and employment opportunity.
