  • Ph.D. Dissertation “Comprehensive Analytical Investigation of the Safety of Unsignalized Intersections”, University of Central Florida, December 2009.

This study explored traffic safety deficiencies at unsignalized intersections through the application of advanced statistical and data mining techniques in the analysis. Afterwards, appropriate countermeasures were introduced for safety alleviation. Extensive data collection was done using 2500 unsignalized intersections from the state of Florida, which represents the most comprehensive data collection done in the State.

  • M.S. Thesis “Exploring the Potential of Combining Ramp Metering and Variable Speed Limit Strategies for Alleviating Real-time Crash Risk on Urban Freeways”, University of Central Florida, December 2007.

This study explored the impact of combining two ITS strategies (ramp metering and variable speed limits) on the rear-end and lane-change crash risks on a 36.25-mile stretch on I-4. The microscopic simulation package “PARAMICS” was used in this study. The combination of these two ITS strategies were examined on different traffic conditions, and compared to implementing either strategy. It was concluded that the combination of both ramp metering and variable speed limits worked the best on conditions approaching congestion.
