Adult learners within the Glasgow region recently completed their Certificate in Human Resource Management at the WKU Glasgow Campus.
Sixteen students fulfilled the 18-credit hour within two semesters, studying ethical issues, supervision, diversity and other management-related subjects. The goal of the certificate program is to provide students with the skills necessary to pursue entry-level human resources positions.
The cohort consisted of full-time employees from the Glasgow area whose employer recognized management potential and recommended them for the program. Many were part of the Kentucky Work Ready Scholarship, a program for Kentucky residents who have not yet completed an associate or higher degree.
The program was offered through a partnership between the WKU Glasgow campus, WKU Cohort Programs and the WKU School of Professional Studies and is the first of its kind at the regional campus.
Amy Burris works for a local bank and wanted to enhance her skills to prepare for future career opportunities.
“My supervisor encouraged me to pursue this certificate,” she said.
Amy says that the WKU Glasgow campus is close to home, and the flexible class options allow her to continue to work and take care of her family.
Students in this certificate program met two nights per week at the Glasgow campus and were able to complete all coursework in two semesters.
“I’m so glad that I did it,” she said. “I have always wanted to go back to school for my degree, but I never knew what I wanted to do. This has encouraged me to continue my education and possibly complete an associate degree.”
