Local Businesses, Organizations Find Helpful Resources at WKU in Owensboro

Owensboro, Kentucky – Many local businesses and organizations have found that WKU in Owensboro is not only a great resource for academic programs, but for hosting meetings and other professional events, too.
Judy Rouse is the Administrative Assistant at WKU in Owensboro and works with a wide variety of businesses and organizations from the region and beyond.
“We host local schools, businesses, healthcare groups, and civic organizations throughout the region and even the state,” said Rouse. “WKU in Owensboro is here to serve this great region, so we are happy to provide free conference room space for those who need a convenient, comfortable space.”
According to Rouse, WKU in Owensboro is a frequent site for meetings, trainings, student tutoring, planning sessions, orientations, and more. Last year, WKU Owensboro campus hosted 137 guest groups and over 3,500 attendees.
“It is a great space for large groups,” said Hannah Cecil, executive assistant from Hospice and Palliative Care of Western Kentucky, a local organization which utilizes WKU in Owensboro for retreats and trainings.
“The campus is always very clean, and the parking lot is large and has easy access to the building. We appreciate how accommodating the WKU-O staff is to our needs.”
WKU’s presence in Owensboro began in 1969 as a way to bring the resources of Western Kentucky University to the region. The current campus opened in 2010 through a partnership between WKU and the Daviess County Fiscal Court. Today, the regional campus offers degree programs and resources that promote higher education, workforce development, personal growth, and a stronger community.
Local attorney Forrest Roberts is a former member of the WKU Board of Regents and current Chair of the WKU Owensboro Advisory Council. She says the WKU and Daviess County partnership is vital to the region, including adult learners who want to complete their 4-year degree close to home and citizens throughout region.
“The WKU in Owensboro campus is a wonderful asset for our community. It is an excellent example of local government responding to the needs of its citizens,” Roberts said.
WKU in Owensboro offers a variety of degree completion programs including Management, Teacher Education, Social Work, Psychology, Paralegal Studies, Health Sciences, Criminology, Sociology, Engineering Tech Management.
Meeting space is also open to the public. WKU strictly enforces all current COVID guidelines.
