WKU to Celebrate National Distance Learning Week
- Wednesday, November 4th, 2015
Webinars, statewide conference among Nov. 9-13 events
Nov. 9-13 is National Distance Learning Week, and WKU will observe the week by hosting a statewide conference and a variety of webinars.
Distance Learning at WKU will offer free 30-minute webinars throughout the week on subjects including online article presentations, green screen presentations and testing in an online setting. On Nov. 12-13, WKU will host the Kentucky Convergence Conference, which provides the opportunity for distance learning, IT and library professionals to share information on innovative technology, academic librarianship and online learning.
Director of Distance Learning at WKU Julie Uranis said WKU is committed to providing access to distance learning opportunities, and these opportunities benefit the entire region.
“Distance learning changes everything for contemporary learners,” said Uranis. “Today’s learners need flexibility to complete their education. Distance learning provides educational opportunities that make it more practicable for those with jobs, families and other commitments to fit a degree into their already demanding schedules.”
WKU leads all four-year Kentucky institutions in the number of distance learning courses available and has been recognized as a national leader in distance learning by US News & World Report, which ranked WKU as the No. 2 school in the nation for online bachelor’s degrees.
In addition to the national observance, Gov. Steve Beshear has signed a proclamation declaring Nov. 9-13 Distance Learning Week for the Commonwealth of Kentucky.
“Our governor has focused on education throughout his tenure. His proclamation of Distance Learning Week shines a light on the significant role distance learning plays through the Commonwealth,” Uranis said.
In 2011, the National Education Association recognized Beshear as America’s Greatest Education Governor.
“It’s encouraging to know that our governor understands the significant impact distance learning has on the educational options available to the citizens of Kentucky, and we appreciate his support,” Uranis said.
Distance Learning at WKU offers degree programs online and through WKU On Demand. WKU offers 13 bachelor’s degrees, 31 master’s degrees, 39 undergraduate or graduate certificates/endorsement and numerous associate degrees and minors.
“We are extremely proud of the outstanding opportunities our university provides for distance learners,” Uranis said.
