Nominate a Teacher
Inquiries and/or additional information also may be directed to Mrs. Tammy Spinks, College of Education and Behavioral Sciences, Western Kentucky University, 1906 College Heights Blvd., #11030, Bowling Green, KY 42101-1030 or email@example.com (270-745-4664).
Each nominee must have a minimum of nineteen (19) years teaching experience, ten (10) of which should have been in a P-12 Kentucky school. Nominees may be living or deceased. All nominees must have a completed nomination packet submitted by the deadline (July 15 each year). All inductees (or their representative, if seriously ill or deceased) must be available to attend the annual Induction Ceremony to accept the award.
Teachers may be nominated and recommended by their individual school districts, fellow educators, or former students. The nomination packets should address the nominee’s impact on students and young people in Kentucky. Page limitations are strictly adhered to by the selection committee. Each nomination packet should include:
- A completed nomination form (PDF)
- A maximum of five (5) one-sided 8½ x 11 pages of supporting documentation outlining the nominee’s qualifications for inclusion in the Kentucky Teacher Hall of Fame. This may include an essay, photographs, testimonials from students, honors and awards, professional activities, career highlights, newspaper clippings, etc. Please keep in mind that the information provided will generally be the only source of information given to the selection committee and should be thorough, yet concise;
- A maximum of five (5) letters of recommendation describing the nominee’s qualifications (this is in addition to the five (5) one-sided pages of supporting documentation described above);
- A black/white or color photograph (5x7 preferred) of the nominee to be used for the program if the nominee is selected. The photograph will not be returned.
Selection criteria will be determined by a committee composed of higher education faculty members/administrators, P-12 teachers and administrators, representatives from various state agencies and professional organizations, and/or prior Kentucky Teacher Hall of Fame inductees. Consideration shall be given to ensure a diverse representation on the selection committee, including gender, race, ethnicity, and geography.
The committee typically meets in the fall of the year to select a minimum of three (3) and a maximum of six (6) individuals to be inducted into the Kentucky Teacher Hall of Fame. All members of the class must receive a majority vote of those present and voting on the selection committee. Additionally, the committee will select and rank two (2) alternates to be considered in the event that a recipient is unable to accept the honor.
An honoree will not be inducted into the Kentucky Teacher Hall of Fame unless he or she attends the induction ceremony (unless seriously ill or deceased) to be held in a location and on a date to be determined, generally January or February. Those not selected will remain in consideration for induction for three years, including their initial nomination year, after which they are not eligible to reapply.
