The 2026 Kentucky General Assembly convened last week. The biennial budget will be the top priority of the General Assembly during this long (even-numbered years) legislative session. The first week has seen a flurry of bills filed – 319 in the House and 70 in the Senate – yet most committees have not begun meeting yet. I expect to see legislation start making its way through the legislature next week.

As a reminder, the legislative process is a marathon, not a sprint; I will keep you updated on all legislation, including the budget, that WKU is tracking.
