GFCB Graduate Admission Requirements


 

Master of Accountancy and Data Analysis Admission Requirements

  1. File application with WKU Graduate School with accompanying fee.
  2. Undergraduate Degree in Accounting. GPA of 3.25 on last sixty (60) hours of undergraduate coursework.
  3. GMAT with a minimum score of 500. A grade of "C" or better in all undergraduate accounting courses. I
  4. International students must provide evidence of their ability to communicate in English in both oral and written form. International students must submit transcript evaluations on a course level basis prepared by WES or similar organization. (The Kentucky State Board of Public Accountancy requires course credits to be certified by the Foreign Academics Credentialing Service or another credentialing agency that is a member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services, Inc.)

These minimum requirements establish eligibility for admission, but do not guarantee acceptance into the program.

An applicant with an undergraduate degree in an area other than accounting who meets the other criteria may be considered for the program upon completion of additional undergraduate and/or graduate foundation coursework.

Master of Applied Economics Admission Requirements

Students seeking admission into the WKU Masters of Arts in Applied Economics must meet the following requirements:

  1. File application with WKU Graduate School with accompanying fee.
  2. Submit three (3) letters of recommendation to WKU Graduate School. The letters can be sent by e-mail or regular mail directly to the Graduate School
  3. Submit official copy of undergraduate degree transcript to WKU Graduate School
  4. Have official GRE score (within last 5 years) submitted to WKU Graduate School
  5. Have a minimum undergraduate grade point average of 2.75 (4.0 scale)
  6. Have a minimum GRE-Quantitative score of 147
  7. For applicants from non-English speaking countries, evidence of ability to communicate in English (a minimum of 550 on the written TOEFL, a minimum of 213 on the computerized TOEFL, a minimum of 79 on the internet TOEFL, successful completion of ELS Level 112, or a minimum of 6.5 on the IELTS   

Additional requirements for Mathematical Methods Concentration: 

  1. Undergraduate degree in Economics, Mathematics, Mathematical Economics or other related major. 
  2. All applicants must have completed a calculus sequence through multivariable calculus, discrete mathematics, principles of microeconomics and macroeconomics, and one semester of junior or senior level probability theory.

Alternate graduate admission test scores such as the GMAT or LSAT will be considered on a case by case basis as a substitute for the GRE. 

Master of Business Administration Admissions Requirements

The admission process for the MBA program at Western Kentucky University involves the following steps and requirements: 

  1. Completion of Graduate School  application, a current resume with two references listed, and an official copy of a GMAT score taken within the last five years.
  1. Applicants seeking admission must meet the following criteria: minimum undergraduate overall grade point average of 2.75 on a 4.0 scale, a minimum overall GMAT score of 500, and a written GMAT score of 3.5. Applicants not meeting these standards may be considered on a case-by-case basis if applicant has a GAP score of 1100 or more [GAP = GMAT total scaled score +(Undergraduate GPA x 200)].
  1. Applicants may use substantial professional work experience (five years minimum of professional or mid to upper-level management experience) to overcome deficiencies in other program admission criteria.
  1. The GMAT requirement will be waived for students who:
    1. already possess a doctoral degree (MD, JD, DO, DDS, PharmD, PhD, EdD, etc.) or those who have completed and passed all sections of the CPA exam;
      OR 
    2. have earned a bachelor's degree with a 3.5 cumulative GPA or higher in a business program in the Gordon Ford College of Business at WKU or other AACSB accredited program.
  1. Applicants who have limited prior academic background in basic business are required to demonstrate proficiency in major areas by successfully completing one of the following:
    1. one or more preparatory courses as specified by the MBA Director;
    2. BA 502;
    3. one or more core area proficiency exams (fees required).

Master of Cybersecurity Data Analytics

The admission process for the MS of Cybersecurity Data Analytics program at Western Kentucky University involves the following steps and requirements:

  1. Complete the Graduate School admission application, submit a current resume, and transcripts.
  2. Applicants seeking admission must meet the following criteria: minimum undergraduate overall grade point average of 2.75 on a 4.0 scale
  3. Applicants must also have completed an Introductory Statistics course and an Intermediate to Advanced Spreadsheet course prior to enrolling in the certificate program.
