The January issue of The Family Child Care Chronicle encourages family child care providers to use winter as a chance for children to explore a new outdoor environment when weather allows.

It reminds providers to dress children for the cold, monitor comfort, and move play indoors when temperatures become unsafe. The issue shares indoor movement ideas like snowman yoga, snowball basketball, and balance beam play. It also announces that registration is live for the Annual Conference on March 13 and 14, hosted with support from the Appalachian Early Childhood Network.

The Kid Corner section gives simple instructions for Snowball Basketball using clean socks and a laundry basket, with extension ideas for distance, movement, and pattern recognition.
