This three-day course prepares participants to deliver HIV prevention counseling skills and strategies. Emphasis is on CDC’s six-steps to basic counseling skills and concepts with several opportunities to practice and receive feedback. Participants explore issues and protocols for HIV testing, including HIV test-result giving and referrals for services and DIS partner elicitation. Individual counselor performance assessments and pre and post course knowledge tests are used as measurement tools.
Learning Objectives: Participants will be able to:
- Follow six steps to conducting an HIV prevention counseling session
- Practice key HIV counseling skills and concepts
