The WKU Summer String Institute is a summer camp for violin, viola, cello, and bass students.  Enrolled students will participate in master classes, group instruction, orchestral study, concerts, and musical enrichment on the campus of Western Kentucky University.   The Institute features two courses of study:

-       Twinklers: a half-day session for young beginners (no experience necessary)
-       A full-day session for elementary through high school age students

The teaching faculty of the Summer String Institute includes WKU music faculty members and guest artist teachers.  The Institute offers all students a fun and valuable opportunity to deepen their knowledge of string playing in an engaging and exciting environment.

Please consider joining us in collecting items for 2016 WKU United Way Day of Caring! We could use your help in 2 ways! We will make it super simple for you!

Step 1:

Donate supplies for the Briarwood Elementary English Classroom. Items include: Clorox Wipes, Tissues, candy, paper towels, markers, crayons, glue sticks, copy paper, lined notebook paper, highlighters, paper plates, small bags, construction paper and small plastic cups! No donation too small!

OR

Purchase NEW Books for Community Education. NEW books for ages birth to 12 years of age. Ones that can be easily read aloud would be nice. Dollar Tree and Bargain Books here in BG, have an awesome selection at a minimal price. (Very gently used books can also be donated!)

Step 2: Consider doing a drive within your department or area and make it a little friendly competition!

To sweeten the deal: The department that donates the most items by the deadline will receive a gift basket of goodies at the end of the month!

Step 3:  Contact me (mindy.johnson@wku.edu, or at 745-2060) and I will come and pick up when it’s most convenient for you or you can drop off at DSU 2059. We will be collecting items between now and July 29th.

We are also looking for volunteers to join us on July 27th from 10am-12pm to read to children at the Community Education’s Summer Program. If you are interested, please let me know and I can provide you more details!
