Molecular Biotechnology Terms


 

What is genomics?

It is the branch of biotechnology that deals with the DNA make-up of organisms in its entirety.

 

What is personalized medicine?

It is the treatment of patients based on their individual bodily characteristics. It is often based on a person's individual DNA sequence.

 

What is cloning?

It is the production of an identical copy. Biotechnologists often make identical copies of DNA, cells or entire organisms.

 

What is an organoid?

It is a miniaturized organ produced in a dish by biotechnologists. It can be used to do research on organs and test drugs.

 

What is genome editing?

It is the modification of an organism's DNA. Biotechnologists use various techniques to accomplish this artificially, like the technique CRISPR. Additional information here and  here.
