Doctor of Nursing Practice

Committed to Caring and Striving for Excellence.

Preparing nurses to become leaders in nursing practice and administration.WKU's Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) is designed for the working nurse! The BSN to DNP has two specialty tracks - Family Nurse Practitioner and Nurse Executive.  Students completing the Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) concentration will be eligible to sit for the Family Nurse Practitioner certification examination. The Post MSN DNP curricula builds on traditional master's programs by providing educations in evidence-based practice, quality improvement, and systems leadership. The DNP is designed for nurses seeking a terminal degree in nursing practice and offers an alternative to research-focused doctoral programs.

The nursing program at Western Kentucky University has shaped me into becoming the nurse I have always dreamed of being. Each member involved in this program, whether that be the staff or your classmates, truly wants what is best for you and motivates you for success. I strongly encourage anyone who has even the slightest bit of interest in healthcare, to see what this program is about, and find out how you can influence the ever-changing profession. It is no doubt that nursing can be a challenging job, but the preparation that this program provides allows you to gain the experience to be the best nurse possible.
