September 14, 2022 - WKU Alert


Incident Summary: 

September 14, 2022 | 1:15 p.m.

Bowling Green, Ky - This morning, suspicious material was located in the vicinity of Cherry Hall on campus. Out of an abundance of caution, buildings in the area were evacuated and all classes suspended until ATF disposed of the material. Responding agencies determined that it was construction related and posed no threat to students, campus or the broader WKU community. The all clear for WKU’s campus was issued at 12:07pm. 
 
While authorities were investigating the object near Cherry Hall, an anonymous post on the social media platform Yik Yak made reference to a bomb threat in PS2. Working with Yik Yak, WKU PD identified a person of interest. The individual admitted that the threat was not legitimate and was taken into custody.

Update History:

 

1:00 p.m. - ALL CLEAR

12:59 p.m. - Anonymous threat against PS2 on social media was unfounded. Person of interest in WKUPD custody. No threat to campus, PS2 has been cleared. Classes are still set to resume at 1:50pm.

12:15 p.m. - @wkupd: There has been a bomb threat via social media in the area of Parking Structure 2. Stay out of the area. Police are on scene. Updates will follow. 

12:07 p.m. - ALL CLEAR: ATF has determined the material found on campus was construction related and posed no threat to campus.  Classes will resume at 1:50 p.m..

11:20 a.m. - All buildings at the bottom of the hill (including DSU and the Preston Center) are open and operational.  Students/faculty/staff evacuated from other buildings on campus should utilize those spaces. Buildings affected by the evacuation are Cherry Hall, Van Meter Hall, The Commons, Gordon Wilson, College High Hall, Faculty House, and Potter Hall.

11:05 a.m. - All buildings at the bottom of the hill (including DSU and the Preston Center) are open and operational.  Students/faculty/staff evacuated from other buildings on campus should utilize those spaces.

11:02 a.m. - WKU Alert: Emergency! College High Hall, Van Meter Hall, Gordon Wilson, Faculty House, and the Commons have been evacuated. Stay out the area!

10:59 a.m. - WKU Alert: Emergency! Multiple agencies on scene. Stay out the area until further notice. It's believed to be construction related. 

10:56 a.m. - WKU Alert: All classes on the Bowling Green campus are suspended until further notice. Follow wku.edu for more information. Stay clear of the top of the hill.

10:29 a.m. - WKU Alert: Emergency! A potential explosive device has been found at Cherry Hall Keep away from the area believed to be construction related.
