Classes beginning at 4pm today on the WKU Bowling Green campus are canceled. ALL Thursday and Friday classes on all campuses are also canceled. Online classes will proceed as scheduled. WKU offices will be closed on Thursday, with essential personnel reporting.

WKU Owensboro closed at noon today (Wed., 3/4).

WKU Glasgow evening classes that begin at 5 pm today will be canceled and the WKU Glasgow campus will close at 7 pm.

WKU Elizabethtown-Fort Knox campus will close today at 3 pm and will remain closed Thurs., Fri, and Sat., March 5-7.

Should inclement weather make travel hazardous, residence halls will remain open until Saturday. Follow WKU Housing & Residence Life for updates.

We strongly encourage students to complement their major by earning a minor. This strengthens their educational experience and makes them more marketable for jobs. Our program offers five minors:

Community Recreation

Minor in Community Recreation

Students must complete the following courses: REC 200, 302, 306, 328, 420, and 493. In addition, students must complete 6 hours of electives from the following list: REC 220, 222, 326, 332, 422, 424, 426, 428, 430, 482.

Facility and Event Management 

Minor in Facility and Event Management

Minimum Hours for Minor: 21

The facility and event management minor provides students with practical knowledge and skills for the effective management of facilities and events. Students must complete the following courses: REC 306, REC 404 or SPM 404, REC 426, SPM 450, REC 493, and six hours of advisor approved electives.

Nonprofit Administration

Minor in Nonprofit Administration

The minor in nonprofit administration prepares students for careers in, and service to, the nonprofit sector. Students take courses from several departments and programs of study to gain needed nonprofit competencies and experiences.

This minor consists of 21-24 hours including the following required courses: REC 220, (MGT 333 or PS 440), (ACCT 200 or REC 402 or SPM 402), REC 460, and REC 496 (150-300 hours of internship experience for 3-6 credit hours).

Students are required to take 6 hours of electives chosen from the following list or other courses as approved by the program coordinator:

Outdoor Leadership

Minor in Outdoor Leadership

Minimum Hours for Minor: 24

The outdoor leadership minor consists of 24 hours designed to provide students with the theoretical and practical skills necessary to become outdoor professionals and to lead groups responsibly in the backcountry. The following courses are required for the minor: REC 330, 332, 335, 337, 435, 437.

In addition, students must choose six hours
of electives from: REC 235, 424, 430, 434, 439, 482, or 493.

Minor in Tourism

The minor in tourism is an interdisciplinary program between the academic units of Family and Consumer Sciences and Kinesiology, Recreation and Sport. Students must complete the following courses: HMD 271, MKT 220, REC 420, and (REC 490 or FACS 313).

Students must complete a minimum of 9 hours from a list of restricted electives in HMD/FACS and Recreation Administration.
