In this webinar you will learn how to easily connect MATLAB and Simulink to hardware. MathWorks engineers will show multiple methods to connect MATLAB and Simulink to an air control valve. Through product demonstrations we will show how you can acquire data, use the data for creating and characterizing models, and then run models together with hardware for real-time, closed-loop testing.
Key concepts will include:
• Acquiring data with MATLAB and Simulink
• Creation of models from acquired data
• Using design models for real-time simulation and testing
Please allow approximately 60 minutes to attend the presentation and Q&A session.
About the Presenters:
Ethan Woodruff is an Application Engineer at MathWorks specializing in real-time testing applications. Previously, he worked for BAE SYSTEMS doing real-time HIL simulation testing at the US Air Force's Guided Weapons Evaluation Facility. He holds B.A. in Physics and a B.A. in Math from the University of Montana.
Isaac Noh is an Application Engineer at MathWorks specializing in test and measurement applications. Previously, he worked for Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory working on test automation systems for semiconductor lithography systems. He holds an M.S.E. in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor and a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley.

In this webinar, we will use MATLAB to discuss the iterative process of analysis, design and optimization involved in the development of major components of 4G LTE wireless systems. The demonstration example will start with a simple communications system and progressively add components to approach a bare bones prototype of a 4G LTE system.
Highlights of the presentation include:
- Mathematical modeling of the LTE standard, specifically its physical layer (PHY) in MATLAB and examining four LTE enabling technologies: OFDM, MIMO, turbo coding and dynamic link adaptations
- Using the Communications System Toolbox to progressively incorporate components such as Modulators, Channel models, Turbo Encoder/Decoder, MIMO and OFDM into your model
- System-level throughput analysis with adaptive modulation based on channel characteristics
- Accelerating the speed of your MATLAB-Simulink simulation at each step through parallel processing, code generation, GPU processing and using efficient algorithms
- Generating C code from your model with MATLAB Coder
- Fixed-point numerical representation of the system model components
- Generating VHDL or Verilog code to implement the design using FPGAs
Please allow approximately 60 minutes to attend the presentation and Q&A session.
About the Presenters: Dr. Houman Zarrinkoub is the Product Manager for signal processing & communications System Toolboxes at the MathWorks. Prior to joining The MathWorks, he spent 6 six years working as a wireless speech processing researcher at Nortel Networks. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in ECE from the McGill University and a Master’s and a PhD degree in Telecommunications from University of Quebec in Canada.
