Welcome to the Department of Psychological Sciences!

This is a time of change and excitement for the discipline of psychology. According to NY Times columnist David Brooks, "we are in the middle of a golden age of behavioral research."  With the abundance of new research in the field, we are discovering how psychological science is fundamental to understanding and addressing pressing issues in our world.

The Department of Psychological Sciences exemplifies WKU's commitment to keeping pace with the changes in the discipline:

  • Our undergraduate Bachelor of Science major was specifically designed to align with the new guidelines of the American Psychological Association and provides students with the kind of skills essential in today's workplace: critical thinking, oral and written communication, quantitative reasoning, and an understanding of individual and group behaviors.
  • Our graduate Master of Science program has concentrations in two of the "hottest" areas of psychology, Industrial/Organizational Psychology and Psychological Science and offers excellent opportunities for internship experiences or collaborative research with our outstanding faculty.
  • We offer a five-year joint BS/MS degree for highly-qualified students; the only one in psychology in the state of Kentucky.

We pride ourselves on our research productivity and our collegial relationship with our students. The WKU Department of Psychological Sciences is truly a place where students can develop as professionals in the field.

We are in a time of tremendous growth, so explore our site and check back frequently. Or stop by to chat. We'd love to hear from you.

--Dr. Kelly L. Madole, Department Chair
